Regular Season Round 15: UNIQA Sopron - MTK 110-51

Leader UNIQA Sopron delivered the twelfth victory. This time they crushed 10th ranked MTK (1-12) 110-51. The game without a history. UNIQA Sopron led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding MTK to just 7 points in second quarter. UNIQA Sopron dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to MTK's 36. UNIQA Sopron forced 19 MTK turnovers and outrebounded them 50-23 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by MTK's players. It was a good game for international Virag Weninger (178-97) who led her team to a victory with 15 points and 9 assists. American guard Shenise Johnson (181-90, college: Miami, FL) contributed with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Five UNIQA Sopron players scored in double figures. UNIQA Sopron's coach Laszlo Sterbencz felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international swingman Orsolya Zsovar (180-84) answered with 13 points and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Nikoletta Turoczi (187-80) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for MTK. UNIQA Sopron (12-2) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. MTK lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with 12 games lost. They share it with ELTE-BEAC. UNIQA Sopron will play against UNI Gyor (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. MTK will have a break next round.
