Regular Season Round 17: Vasas Akademia - UNIQA Sopron 63-92

A Division top team - UNIQA Sopron (13-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Vasas Akademia (4-12) in Budapest 92-63. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when UNIQA Sopron's pressure prevailed and they won that period 30-4 extending their advantage to 29 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Vasas Akademia to just 4 points in fourth quarter. UNIQA Sopron dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Vasas Akademia's 30 and made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Vasas Akademia 51-30 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. UNIQA Sopron players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Vasas Akademia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Australian center Cayla George (192-89) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 22 rebounds for the winning side and American guard Shenise Johnson (181-90, college: Miami, FL) accounted for 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Four UNIQA Sopron players scored in double figures. Serbian guard Snezana Colic (178-92) came up with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Serbian guard Latinka Dusanic (178-90) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Vasas Akademia in the defeat. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-3 record. Vasas Akademia lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. UNIQA Sopron will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vasas Akademia will play on the road against Atomeromu (#4) in Szekszard and hopes to get back on the winning track.
