Regular Season Round 16: Winterthur - Riva 64-79
Date: February 12, 2017
Bottom-ranked Riva managed to get a third victory, breaking the three-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they won against fifth-ranked Winterthur 79-64. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 15-point difference proves that Riva was well-prepared to that game. The game without a history. Riva led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Riva had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jackie Nared (183-90, college: St.Mary's, CA, agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Canadian power forward Julie Seabrook (189-90, college: Colorado) who added 16 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Four Riva players scored in double figures. Riva's coach Walter Montini used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American guard Sarah Halejian (175-92, college: Yale) responded with 28 points and 5 rebounds and forward Miriam Baumann (180-93, college: Quest) scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Riva maintains ninth position with 3-11 record. Loser Winterthur keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Pully. Riva will meet at home higher ranked Aarau (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Winterthur will play against Bellinzona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
