Regular Season Round 19: UNIQA Sopron - Cegledi EKK 90-68

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked UNIQA Sopron as it allowed them to take a leadership position. UNIQA Sopron smashed 5th ranked Cegledi EKK at home 90-68. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Cegledi EKK. The game was mostly controlled by UNIQA Sopron. Cegledi EKK managed to win third quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UNIQA Sopron made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 Cegledi EKK turnovers and had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. UNIQA Sopron looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when UNIQA Sopron made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Australian center Cayla George (192-89) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Zsofia Fegyverneky (178-84, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 11 points and 8 assists for the winners. Five UNIQA Sopron players scored in double figures. Point guard Nora Nagy-Bujdoso (155-92) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Serbian Maja Skoric (185-89) added 15 points and 6 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) in the effort for Cegledi EKK. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Cegledi EKK at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Cegledi EKK will play next round against strong UNI Gyor trying to get back on the winning streak. UNIQA Sopron will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked ZTE NKK in Zalaegerszeg.
