Second Stage Round 2: Starwings - Monthey 76-79

Sixth-ranked Starwings (10-12) used its home court advantage to challenge Monthey (15-7) in Basel on Sunday. The visitors from Monthey managed to secure only three-point victory 79-76. However their fans expected easier game. Starwings trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 26-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 76-79 at the end of the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Starwings helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Markel Humphrey (198-86, college: Marshall, agency: Three Eye Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 5 rebounds. Naturalized French Mikael Maruotto (201-91) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Four Monthey players scored in double figures. American guard Chris Jones (188-93, college: Angelo St.) replied with 35 points (!!!) and his fellow American import power forward Octavius Brown (206-93, college: Alcorn St.) added 8 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Starwings. Monthey is looking forward to face Lugano Tigers at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Starwings will play against Fribourg (#1) and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
