Second Stage Round 5: Kormend - Alba 96-89

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Alba (22-8) on the court of second ranked Kormend on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Kormend 96-89. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Strangely Alba outrebounded Kormend 40-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Lenzelle Smith-Jr (193-91, college: Ohio St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international Csaba Ferencz (194-85) contributed with 28 points for the winners. Five Kormend players scored in double figures. American forward Winston Shepard (203-93, college: San Diego St., agency: Diamond Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international power forward Peter Lorant (206-85, agency: Octagon Europe) added 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Alba. Kormend maintains second place with 21-9 record behind leader PVSK Pannon. Alba at the other side still keeps top position with eight games lost. Kormend are looking forward to face ZTE KK (#5) in Zalaegerszeg in the next round. Alba will have a break next round.
