Second Stage Round 7: Vasas - Jaszberenyi 84-79

Bottom-ranked Vasas managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the series of two consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time newly promoted Vasas won against twelfth-ranked Jaszberenyi in Budapest 84-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jaszberenyi. The hosts trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 33-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Vasas looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for Canadian power forward Ryan Wright (206-87, college: Oklahoma) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American forward Sam Thompson (201-92, college: Ohio St., agency: Pensack Sports) helped adding 14 points. Four Vasas players scored in double figures. Vasas' coach Bulcsu Sarosi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Serbian power forward Svetozar Stamenkovic (206-90) responded with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (made all of his eight free throws) and power forward Georgy Cseh (208-87) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Vasas (6-24) moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Jaszberenyi keeps the twelfth position with 21 games lost. Vasas will meet higher ranked Atomeromu (#11) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jaszberenyi will have a break next round.
