The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Apollon (0-1) in Nicosia on Monday night. Visitors were rolled over by Apoel (1-0) 96-67. Apoel outrebounded Apollon 38-27 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Apollon's players. American guard Evrik Gary (191-91, college: Francis Marion) stepped up and scored 26 points for the winners and his fellow American import power forward Justin Baker (203-89, college: Utah Valley) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Gary is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international swingman Grigoris Pantouris (190-82) responded with 16 points and American guard Adonis Filer (196-93, college: Florida Atlantic, agency: KMG Sports Management) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Apoel is looking forward to face Keravnos (#7) in Strovolos in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Apollon will have a break next round.
