We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Izhevsk where 6th ranked Kupol-Rodniki (5-4) was defeated by seventh ranked Spartak-Prim. (5-4) 79-70. Spartak-Prim. players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Guard Viktor Zaryazhko (195-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international swingman Igor Smygin (197-87) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Spartak-Prim. players scored in double figures. Center Ruslan Abdulbasirov (211-93) answered with 13 points and 9 rebounds and center Vladimir Lidyaev (203-87) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Kupol-Rodniki. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Spartak-Prim. moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Kupol-Rodniki. Spartak-Prim.'s next round opponent will be Novosybirsk (#8) at home.
