Regular Season Round 7: Spartak SP - MBA Moscow 71-66

Spartak St.Petersburg's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked MBA Moscow (3-7) 71-66. It was a great evening for Slovenian center Radoslav Pekovic (215-94) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 9 rebounds. Serbian guard Aleksa Nikolic (200-95, college: Marshall) helped adding 18 points and 5 assists. At the losing side the former international forward Sergey Toporov (197-81, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and guard Maksim Bychkov (192-90) scored 5 points and 5 assists. MBA Moscow's coach Alexander Afanasyev tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Spartak St.Petersburg maintains fourteenth place with 1-5 record. MBA Moscow at the other side dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Ryazan. Spartak St.Petersburg will play against higher ranked Novosybirsk (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MBA Moscow will play against Ural Ekaterinburg and hopes to get back on the winning track.
