Regular Season Round 8: CSKA Junior - Zenit 97-99

A very close game took place in Moscow between Zenit-2 and CSKA Junior. Sixth ranked Zenit-2 (5-8) got a very close victory on the road over 5th ranked CSKA Junior (5-7). Zenit-2 managed to escape with a 2-point win 99-97 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of CSKA Junior. Zenit-2 forced 19 CSKA Junior turnovers. Strangely CSKA Junior outrebounded Zenit-2 37-21 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by forward Yuliy Kalinin (198-98) who scored that evening 40 points (!!!) and 4 assists and forward Dmitriy Nechayev (198-98) supported him with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds by Alexandr Kurbatov (208-97) did not help to save the game for CSKA Junior. Aleksandr Ershov (196-0, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) added 19 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Four Zenit-2 and five CSKA Junior players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zenit-2 maintains sixth position with 5-8 record. Loser CSKA Junior keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
