Regular Season Round 6: Vienna - Zlatorog 90-83

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Slovenian Zlatorog (2-1) on the court of top-ranked Austrian Vienna on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Vienna 90-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zlatorog. It was a key game for the top position in Group A. Vienna dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Zlatorog's 26 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Vienna looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Zlatorog helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Czech center Jiri Hubalek (208-82, college: Iowa St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with 38 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. American-Austrian Jason Detrick (195-80, college: Oklahoma, agency: 3Eye) contributed with 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Miha Lapornik (194-93) replied with 28 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Urban Durnik (201-97) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Zlatorog. Four Zlatorog players scored in double figures. Vienna have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group A with 3-0 record. Zlatorog at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. Vienna are looking forward to face Prievidza (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Zlatorog will play against USK Praha and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
