Regular Season Round 16: MBA-2 - Nika 63-66

Date: December 2, 2017
The most exciting game of round 16 in the Superleague 1 took place in Moscow. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked MBA-2 (4-8) to fifth ranked Nika (6-6) 66-63 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of MBA-2. They outrebounded MBA-2 47-25 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. 28 personal fouls committed by MBA-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Marina Sheveleva (184-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and forward Yana Kotova (186-88) who added 14 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Veronika Varlamova (179-96) responded with 21 points and center Aleksandra Ivanova (189-99) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. MBA-2's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Nika maintains fifth position with 6-6 record. MBA-2 at the other side keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. Nika are looking forward to face league's second-placed Samara at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. MBA-2 will play against Stavropol (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
