The most exciting game of round 8 in the SBL took place in Pully. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd ranked Pully (5-3) to first ranked Fribourg (7-1) 64-62 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Pully. Fribourg forced 21 Pully turnovers. Strangely Pully outrebounded Fribourg 47-31 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international power forward Marielle Giroud (181-87, college: Franklin Pierce) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Belgian point guard Noemie Mayombo (170-91, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Fribourg players scored in double figures. American center Khadijiah Cave (190-95, college: Baylor) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 21 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Shanovia Dove (173, college: LIU Brooklyn, agency: Two Points) added 12 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Pully. Fribourg maintains first position with 7-1 record. Pully at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Winterthur. Fribourg are looking forward to face Riva (#5) in Riva San Vitale in the next round. Pully will play on the road against Winterthur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
