Regular Season Round 17: Nika - Samara 86-84

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Superleague 1 took place in Syktyvkar. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Samara (9-6) to fifth ranked Nika (7-6) 86-84 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Samara. They outrebounded Samara 43-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Yana Kotova (186-88) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Guard Yana Panevina (167-91) chipped in 21 points. Four Nika players scored in double figures. Forward Olga Lavrova (182-95) produced 20 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and point guard Evgenia Oksner (165-90) added 11 points, 6 assists and 4 steals respectively for the guests. Samara's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Nika maintains fifth place with 7-6 record. Samara at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Nika are again looking forward to face higher ranked Samara (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Samara will have a break next round.
