Regular Season Round 12: BEAC Ujbuda - Sopron Basket 47-110
Date: January 6, 2018
Bottom-ranked BEAC-Ujbuda (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 110-47 loss to third ranked Sopron Basket (9-2) in Budapest on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Sopron Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding BEAC-Ujbuda to just 4 points in second quarter. Sopron Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to BEAC-Ujbuda's 24. Sopron Basket forced 28 BEAC-Ujbuda turnovers and outrebounded them 36-20 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 38 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by BEAC-Ujbuda's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Tina Jovanovic (192-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Spanish point guard Angela Salvadores (178-97, college: Duke, agency: ProDep Management) who added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Sopron Basket players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was power forward Judit Barnai (189-94) with 9 points and 10 rebounds and forward Krisztina Sule (178-87) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sopron Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with UNI Gyor. Loser BEAC-Ujbuda still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Sopron Basket will meet at home Miskolc (#5) in the next round. BEAC-Ujbuda's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Budapest Vasas Akademia.
