Regular Season Round 27: MBA Moscow - Novosybirsk 79-78

A very close game took place in Moscow between MBA Moscow and Novosybirsk. Tenth ranked MBA Moscow (10-15) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Novosybirsk (16-10). MBA Moscow managed to escape with a 1-point win 79-78 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Sergey Toporov (197-81, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Pavel Afanasiev (201-96) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. MBA Moscow's coach Alexander Afanasyev used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Alexander Martynov (196-95) came up with 17 points and 6 rebounds and center Alexey Kurtsevich (210-89) added 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for Novosybirsk in the defeat. Four Novosybirsk players scored in double figures. MBA Moscow moved-up to ninth place. Novosybirsk lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Univ.Surgut and Ural Ekaterinb.. MBA Moscow will meet Kupol-Rodniki (#10) in the next round. Novosybirsk will play against Universitet-Yugra (#5) in Surgut and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
