Regular Season Round 19: Khimki-2 - Lokomotiv-2 85-84

The most exciting game of round 19 in the VTB-Youth took place in Khimki. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Lokomotiv-2 (20-8) to second ranked Khimki-2 (21-5) 85-84 in the game for the second place. Khimki-2 made 27-of-35 free shots (77.1 percent) during the game, while Lokomotiv-2 only scored seven points from the stripe. 25 personal fouls committed by Lokomotiv-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Igor Volkhin (200-97) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Power forward Ilya Karpenkov (203-97) helped adding 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Khimki-2 players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Kirill Popov (202-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and guard Zakhar Vedischev (196-0) scored 22 points. Lokomotiv-2's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Khimki-2 have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 21-5 record behind leader Samara-2. Lokomotiv-2 at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Khimki-2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lokomotiv-2 will play on the road against Enisey-2 in Krasnoyarsk and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
