Regular Season Round 35: CSKA 2 - Spartak SP 85-92

There was an upset in Moscow where higher ranked CSKA 2 (19-15) was defeated by twelfth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (9-24) 92-85 on Thursday. Spartak St.Petersburg outrebounded CSKA 2 45-28 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. CSKA 2 was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was forward Andrey Semenov (200-90, college: JMU) who scored 36 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Slovenian center Radoslav Pekovic (215-94) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. International guard Mikhail Kulagin (191-94, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) produced 22 points and Aleksandr Gankevich (201-95) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Spartak St.Petersburg maintains twelfth place with 9-24 record. CSKA 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the seventh position with 15 games lost. Spartak St.Petersburg will face higher ranked Novosybirsk (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
