Regular Season Round 22: Szolnok - Kormend 74-75

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Szolnok (17-4) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by second ranked Kormend (16-5) 75-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Szolnok. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Szolnok was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 18-16 charge of Kormend, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Szolnok's players. American guard Marquis Wright (185-95, college: Siena) had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Csaba Ferencz (194-85) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international swingman David Vojvoda (196-90) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and Serbian forward Strahinja Milosevic (203-85) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kormend maintains second position with 16-5 record behind leader Szolnok, which they share with Falco-Vulcano. Szolnok at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. Kormend is looking forward to face KTE-Duna (#5) in Kecskemet in the next round. Szolnok will play on the road against Kaposvari (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
