There was a small surprise in Cheboksari where fifth ranked Cheb.Yastreby (14-10) defeated 5th ranked Dynamo-MGTU (12-12) 95-89 on Friday. Cheb.Yastreby forced 26 Dynamo-MGTU turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cheb.Yastreby made 7 blocks. Power forward Sergey Zhulkov (203-95) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Gleb Beygelzimer (184-87) chipped in 6 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Cheb.Yastreby's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side power forward Sergey Balashov (206-96, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 19 rebounds and swingman Maksim Knyazev (198-96) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cheb.Yastreby moved-up to fourth place. Dynamo-MGTU lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with 12 games lost. They share it with Arsenal. Cheb.Yastreby will meet at home Arsenal (#4) in the next round. Dynamo-MGTU will play against Ufimets Ufa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
