Regular Season Round 7: Spartak SP-2 - CSKA Junior 79-94

VTB-Youth top team - CSKA Junior (7-0) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat ninth ranked Spartak SP-2 (2-5) in Sankt Petersburg 94-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Spartak SP-2. The game was mostly controlled by CSKA Junior. Spartak SP-2 managed to win second period 31-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Spartak SP-2 49-22 including a 23-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Spartak SP-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Denis Kovalev (190-1, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who helped to win the game recording 24 points. Forward Filipp Gafurov (209-1) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Daniil Mikhailov answered with 19 points and 5 rebounds and guard Nikita Tikhonov (190-99) added 12 points and 4 assists in the effort for Spartak SP-2. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CSKA Junior have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Spartak SP-2 at the other side keeps the ninth position with five games lost. CSKA Junior will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartak SP-2 will play again at home against the league's leader CSKA Junior (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
