Regular Season Round 8: Vostok-65 - Ural Ekaterinb. 94-96

The most important game in the last round took place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk between third ranked Vostok-65 (5-2) and fourteenth ranked Ural Ekaterinburg (3-4) on Wednesday night. Vostok-65 was edged by Ural Ekaterinburg in a tough game at home 94-96. Ural Ekaterinburg had a 29-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Mandell Thomas (188-93, college: Fordham) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and the former international forward Denis Levshin (202-93) who added 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Ural Ekaterinburg's coach Vadim Filatov used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Kwamain Mitchell (183-89, college: St.Louis) responded with 30 points and 5 assists and guard Aleksey Golyahov (190-84) scored 30 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Five Ural Ekaterinburg and four Vostok-65 players scored in double figures. Ural Ekaterinburg moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Vostok-65 keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Spartak-Prim. and Samara. Ural Ekaterinburg is looking forward to face higher ranked Spartak-Prim. (#4) in Vladivostok in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vostok-65 will play at home against Universitet-Yugra and is hoping to win this game.
