Regular Season Round 12: Khimki-2 - Zenit-2 72-51

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Khimki. Second ranked Khimki-2 faced 3rd ranked Zenit-2. Host Khimki-2 (11-3) smashed guests from Sankt Petersburg (8-4) 72-51. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Zenit-2. The game was mostly controlled by Khimki-2. Zenit-2 was better in fourth quarter 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Zenit-2 to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Zenit-2 55-29 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Khimki-2 brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a good game for power forward Dmitrii Kadoshnikov (204-1) who led his team to a victory with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Ivan Evstigneev (194-99) contributed with 14 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Kirill Shilin (195-0) replied with 18 points and Vasilii Berdnikov (195-0) added 9 points in the effort for Zenit-2. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimki-2 maintains second position with 11-3 record having just six point less than leader CSKA Junior. Zenit-2 at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Khimki-2 will play against Enisey-2 (#10) in Krasnoyarsk in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zenit-2 will play at home against N.Novgorod-2 (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
