Important game to mention about took place in Sankt Petersburg. Fourth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (8-3) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 10th ranked Ural Ekaterinburg (5-6) 80-77 on Thursday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Spartak St.Petersburg shot 32 for 44 from the free-throw line, while Ural Ekaterinburg only scored thirteen points from the stripe. Ural Ekaterinburg was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international point guard Ivan Savelyev (190-87) stepped up and scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Pavel Aleksandrov (192-89) chipped in 20 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Five Spartak St.Petersburg players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Mandell Thomas (188-93, college: Fordham) responded with 27 points and 4 assists and the former international forward Denis Levshin (202-93) scored 16 points. Ural Ekaterinburg's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Spartak St.Petersburg moved-up to third place, which they share with Vostok-65. Ural Ekaterinburg at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with CSKA 2. Spartak St.Petersburg will play against league's leader Temp in Revda in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ural Ekaterinburg will have a break next round.
