Regular Season Round 9: C2S AEL - Anagennises 43-42

Fifth-ranked Anagennises (4-5) made lots of trouble for second ranked C2S AEL (8-1) in Limassol on Saturday. C2S AEL managed to secure only one-point victory 43-42. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anagennises. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 12-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. C2S AEL dominated on the defensive end, holding Anagennises to just 5 points in first quarter. They also forced 24 Anagennises turnovers. The best player for the winners was Brazilian forward Julia Torres (190-93, college: Missouri Western) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds. Guard Anthia Papadouri (168-93) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Maranne Johnson (170-96, college: Sacramento St.) who recorded 25 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Marissa Pangalos (170-95) added 4 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals respectively. C2S AEL have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 8-1 record behind leader Keravnos. Anagennises at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. C2S AEL are looking forward to face Apoel (#3) in Nicosia in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Anagennises will play on the road against APOP Paphou and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
