Regular Season Round 18: Apoel - Keravnos 74-80

Rather expected game when 3rd ranked Apoel (10-7) lost to first ranked Keravnos (14-4) in Nicosia 74-80 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 12 points at the halftime before their 56-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Keravnos made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Keravnos had a 40-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Apoel was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for point guard Wesley Channels (190-88, college: Austin Peay St.) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Guard Josh Hagins (185-94, college: UALR, agency: Haylett Sports) contributed with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Keravnos' coach Christoforos Livadiotis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Keaton Grant (193-86, college: Purdue) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Kasey Hill (185-93, college: Florida) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Apoel. Five Apoel players scored in double figures. Keravnos have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-4 record. Apoel lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third place with seven games lost. Keravnos will face Omonia (#7) in Nicosia in the next round where they are favorite. Apoel will play on the road against Apollon (#4) in Limassol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
