Regular Season Round 6: CSKA Junior - Avtodor-2 102-99

Seventh-ranked Avtodor-2 (3-4) gave a tough game to top-ranked CSKA Junior (9-0) in Moscow on Friday. CSKA Junior managed to secure only three-point victory 102-99. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Avtodor-2. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Avtodor-2 won third quarter 31-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CSKA Junior made 33-of-38 free shots (86.8 percent) during the game. CSKA Junior outrebounded Avtodor-2 40-28 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Avtodor-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Alexander Maltsev (200-2) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Anton Kardanakhishvili (192-2) chipped in 22 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Four CSKA Junior players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Yegor Bestuzhev (180-99) with 39 points (!!!) and 4 assists and forward Aleksandr Petenev (197-0) scored 28 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CSKA Junior have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-0 record. Avtodor-2 at the other side keeps the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with MBA-2. CSKA Junior are again looking forward to face Avtodor-2 (#7) in Saratov in the next round where they are favorite. Avtodor-2 will have a break next round.
