Regular Season Round 5: Etha - Apollon 81-84

The most exciting game of round 5 in the OPAP Basket League took place in Nicosia. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Etha (1-4) to leader Apollon (4-0) 84-81 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-81. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was center Malik Hines (208-96, college: McNeese St.) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Zacarry Douglas (203-95, college: NC Central) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Jeremy Smith (190-95, college: Nicholls St.) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Anthony Adger (185, college: FAU) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Five Apollon and four Etha players scored in double figures. Apollon have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 4-0 record having 2 victories less than leader Keravnos. Etha at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with APOP. Apollon are looking forward to face AEK Larnaca (#4) at home in the next round. Etha will play against E.N. Paralimni and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
