Regular Season Round 5: C2S AEL - Anagennises 72-49

Date: November 10, 2019
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Limassol: C2S AEL (#1) and Anagennises (#2). C2S AEL (6-0) crushed visiting Anagennises (3-2) by 23 points 72-49. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anagennises. It looked good early as Anagennises took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then C2S AEL had a 20-14 second period charge getting the lead and Anagennises was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 49-72. They outrebounded Anagennises 48-32 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Maddy Dean (175-96, college: Drake) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds. The former international guard Stavria Koniali (170-93) contributed with 15 points and 7 assists for the winners. C2S AEL's coach Giorgos Palalas felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Tatiana Wayne (168-96, college: Columbus St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds and power forward Styliana Velinova (188-0) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Anagennises. C2S AEL have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Anagennises at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. C2S AEL will play against InterCollege Etha (#5) in Nicosia in the next round. Anagennises will play against the league's second-placed Anorthosis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
