Regular Season Round 9: Apoel - Apollon 82-77

The game between third ranked Apollon (5-3) and fifth ranked Apoel (4-4) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. Apollon was defeated by Apoel in a tough game in Nicosia 77-82. Apollon was trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-17 charge of Apoel, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for American center LaRon Dendy (205-88, college: MTSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Dmitri Thompson (193-96, college: Elon) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American guard Rob Lewis (185-94, college: Queens, NC) answered with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international point guard Stefanos Iliadis (185-94, college: S.Florida) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Apollon. Four Apoel and five Apollon players scored in double figures. Apoel moved-up to fourth place, which they share with E.N. Paralimni. Apollon at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Apoel's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Nicosia to the arena Omonia.
