Regular Season Round 9: AEL - Omonia 65-78

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eighth ranked Omonia (2-6) beat 7th ranked AEL (2-6) in Limassol 78-65 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Omonia. AEL managed to win third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American point guard David Nichols (183-96, college: FSU) nailed 25 points and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winning side and his fellow American import center Jailen Gill (203-96, college: UT Martin) accounted for 10 points and 11 rebounds. Greek center Ioannis Dimakopoulos (218-94, college: UC Irvine) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American guard Jaylin Walker (185-97, college: Kent St.) added 12 points respectively for AEL in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Omonia moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated AEL. Omonia will meet at home higher ranked Apoel (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AEL will play against Etha in Nicosia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
