Very expected game when 10th ranked Chernye Medv. (5-13) was smashed by fourth ranked Neftyanik (13-5) in Sankt Petersburg 80-59 on Thursday. Neftyanik made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. Neftyanik outrebounded Chernye Medv. 42-20 including a 29-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Marina Sheveleva (184-89) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Anastasya Alexeeva (182-95) accounted for 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Neftyanik players scored in double figures. Guard Elizaveta Balykova (172-98) came up with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Anastasia Ushkalova (178-96) added 11 points respectively for Chernye Medv. in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Neftyanik. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Dynamo-Farm. Chernye Medv. lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Chevakata. Neftyanik will meet Spartak St.Petersburg (#5) in the next round. Chernye Medv. will play against UMMC Junior (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
