Regular Season Round 17: Kupol-Rodniki - Burevestnik 72-86

The biggest surprise of round 17 in Superleague 1 was guest Burevestnik's (11-5) road victory over 4th placed Kupol-Rodniki (10-6) 86-72 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kupol-Rodniki. Burevestnik dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kupol-Rodniki's 30. They outrebounded Kupol-Rodniki 46-26 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Justin Roberson (185-93, college: ULM) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Latvian power forward Artjoms Butjankovs (205-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Four Burevestnik players scored in double figures. Center Ievgen Minchenko (213-94) produced 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks and point guard Andrey Mateyunas (180-88) added 9 points respectively for the hosts. Kupol-Rodniki's coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Burevestnik have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Vostok-65. Kupol-Rodniki at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Burevestnik is looking forward to face CSKA 2 (#11) in Moscow in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kupol-Rodniki will play at home against Spartak St.Petersburg (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
