Regular Season Round 17: Omonia - AEL 89-58

The game with biggest result difference took place in Nicosia. Local Omonia (5-10) outscored 8th ranked AEL (3-12) 89-58. The game without a history. Omonia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to AEL's 24. Omonia forced 31 AEL turnovers. Strangely AEL outrebounded Omonia 36-17 including 21 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American point guard David Nichols (183-96, college: FSU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import guard Nate Britt (185-94, college: UNC) contributed with 21 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Omonia players scored in double figures. Omonia's coach Dimitrios Koukouris felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Jaylin Walker (185-97, college: Kent St.) answered with 17 points and Greek center Ioannis Dimakopoulos (218-94, college: UC Irvine) added 6 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for AEL. Omonia maintains seventh place with 5-10 record. AEL at the other side keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. Omonia will play against league's leader Keravnos in Strovolos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AEL will play at home against APOP (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
