Regular Season Round 17: APOP - AEK Larnaca 67-96

There was no surprise in Paphou where 9th ranked APOP (1-14) was crushed by second ranked AEK Larnaca (13-2) 96-67. The game without a history. AEK Larnaca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. AEK Larnaca outrebounded APOP 37-22 including 22 on the defensive glass. The former international guard Andreas Sizopoulos (192-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points. American forward Zach Brown (198-95, college: Wichita St.) contributed with 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward Anthony Stover (208-90, college: UCLA) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and the other American import point guard Phil Taylor (178-91, college: Shorter) added 16 points and 5 assists in the effort for APOP. Four APOP players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. AEK Larnaca have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-2 record behind leader Keravnos. APOP lost fourteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. AEK Larnaca will play against Etha (#6) in Nicosia in the next round. APOP will play on the road against AEL in Limassol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
