Regular Season Round 20: APOP - Apollon 72-77

Date: February 8, 2020
There was no surprise in Paphou where 9th ranked APOP (1-17) was defeated by third ranked Apollon (13-5) 77-72 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But APOP won third quarter 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Apollon made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Apollon made 8 blocks. The game was also dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Aundre Jackson (196-95, college: Loyola, IL) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Liam OReilly (188-96, college: Gardner-Webb) who added 17 points and 4 steals during the contest. Forward Anthony Stover (208-90, college: UCLA) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds and guard Courtney Pigram (185-85, college: ETSU, agency: Interperformances) scored 23 points. Apollon have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-5 record having just three points less than leader AEK Larnaca. APOP lost seventeenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 17 lost games. Apollon will meet at home league's second-placed Keravnos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. APOP will play against E.N. Paralimni (#4) and hope to win that game.
