Regular Season Round 24: APOP - Omonia 68-75

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Omonia (9-12) beat bottom-ranked APOP (2-20) in Paphou 75-68 on Wednesday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-11. But APOP won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by guard Nate Britt (185-94, college: UNC) who scored that evening 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard David Nichols (183-96, college: FSU) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds by forward Anthony Stover (208-90, college: UCLA) did not help to save the game for APOP. Point guard Phil Taylor (178-91, college: Shorter) added 14 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Omonia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Etha. APOP lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 20 lost games. Omonia will meet at home league's leader Keravnos in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. APOP will play against AEL (#8) in Limassol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
