Regular Season Round 24: AEK Larnaca - Apoel 72-82

Very important is a home loss of second ranked AEK Larnaca (18-3) against fourth ranked Apoel (11-11) on Thursday night. Host AEK Larnaca was defeated by Apoel in Larnaca 82-72. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of AEK Larnaca. The game was mostly controlled by Apoel. AEK Larnaca was better in second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Apoel especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jarvis Garrett (182-95, college: URI) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Michael Cuffee (195-83, college: MTSU) who added 20 points during the contest (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Four Apoel players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Canadian-Nigerian forward Derek Ogbeide (203-97, college: Georgia) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Roberto Mantovani (203-94, college: RMU) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Apoel maintains fourth position with 11-11 record. AEK Larnaca at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. Apoel will play against higher ranked Apollon (#3) in Limassol in the next round and it may be the game of the week. AEK Larnaca will play on the road against Etha in Nicosia and hopes to get back on the winning track.
