The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Samara-2 (33-9) in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by ninth ranked N.Novgorod-2 (18-24) 80-51. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Samara-2. The game was mostly controlled by N.Novgorod-2. Samara-2 managed to win second period 14-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. N.Novgorod-2 held Samara-2 to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.0 percent accuracy of the winners. N.Novgorod-2 had a 33-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when N.Novgorod-2 made 7 blocks. Guard Mikhail Byzov (185-0) stepped up and scored 28 points for the winners and forward Yegor Chepik (197-0) chipped in 16 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side center Mikhail Ermilov (201-99) responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds and guard Valery Kukavsky (196-0) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. N.Novgorod-2 maintains ninth place with 18-24 record. Samara-2 at the other side still keeps top position with nine games lost. N.Novgorod-2 are looking forward to face higher ranked Unics-2 (#8) in Kazan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Samara-2 will play on the road against Avtodor-2 (#5) in Saratov and is hoping to win this game.
