Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Limassol: Apollon (#2) and AEL (#8). Apollon (4-1) crushed visiting AEL (0-4) by 18 points 86-68. The game was mostly controlled by Apollon. AEL was better in second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded AEL 49-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. Apollon players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. AEL was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import power forward Joey Dorsey (206-83, college: Memphis) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Ivan Gandia-Rosa (185-97, college: N.Florida) answered with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international swingman Iraklis Pittakas (192-84) added 13 points in the effort for AEL. AEL's coach Dimitris Sarikas rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Apollon have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader E.N. Paralimni. AEL at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Apollon will play against league's leader E.N. Paralimni on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AEL will play against AEK Larnaca (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
