Regular Season Round 6: AEL - Anagennises 82-62

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Limassol: AEL (#2) and Anagennises (#6). AEL (4-1) smashed visiting Anagennises (1-4) by 20 points 82-62. The game was mostly controlled by AEL. Anagennises managed to win fourth quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEL forced 19 Anagennises turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Angela Tompkins (188-91, college: Wichita St.) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international center Eleni Oikonomidou (180-97) chipped in 12 points and 5 assists. AEL's coach Giorgos Palalas used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-95, college: CBU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized British Chrystalla Merkouri (182-75) added 15 points respectively. Defending champion maintains second position with 4-1 record having just three points less than leader Anorthosis, which they share with Etha. Anagennises at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with ENAD. AEL is looking forward to face Etha (#3) in Nicosia in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Anagennises' supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Limassol Phoenix.
