The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Apollon as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Apollon edged 6th ranked Omonia in Limassol 90-87. Apollon dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Omonia's 36. Apollon forced 22 Omonia turnovers. American power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international forward Rafail Eleftheriou (201-94, college: FPU) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Stokley Chaffee (204-96, college: Tennessee St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Nick Garth (183-96, college: Lamar) scored 20 points. Four Omonia players scored in double figures. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Omonia at the other side keeps the sixth place with five games lost. Omonia will play next round against strong AEK Larnaca trying to get back on the winning streak. Apollon will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Etha in Nicosia.
