Regular Season Round 11: Chelbasket - Metallurg MGN 70-80

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Chelyabinsk: Metallurg MGN (#4) and Chelbasket (#8). Chelbasket was defeated at home 70-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Metallurg MGN outrebounded Chelbasket 41-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. Forward Vadim Balyakin (199-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points. Power forward Alexandr Kurbatov (208-97) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Andrey Loginov (204-93) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Belarusian guard Valentin Nazarov (185-97) added 17 points and 5 assists in the effort for Chelbasket. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Metallurg MGN maintains fourth place with 6-4 record, which they share with Dynamo-MGTU. Chelbasket lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. They share it with Neftekhimik T.. Metallurg MGN will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chelbasket will play on the road against Dynamo STV (#6) in Stavropol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
