Regular Season Round 9: Etha - Anagennises 72-74

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Division A took place in Nicosia. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed Etha (4-4) to sixth ranked Anagennises (2-5) 74-72 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 17-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Anagennises dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Etha's 36. Anagennises forced 19 Etha turnovers and outrebounded them 42-23 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-95, college: CBU) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 20 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Naturalized British Chrystalla Merkouri (182-75) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Maya Brewer (180, college: Wichita St.) who recorded 24 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Ioanna Kyprianou (160-3) added 20 points and 6 steals respectively. Anagennises moved-up to fifth place. Etha lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Anagennises are looking forward to face bottom-ranked APOP Paphou (#7) at home in the next round. Etha will have a break next round.
