Regular Season Round 16: Zenit-2 - CSKA Junior 80-78

The most exciting game of round 16 in the VTB-Youth League took place in Sankt Petersburg. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked CSKA Junior (9-8) to fifth ranked Zenit-2 (11-8) 80-78 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of CSKA Junior. CSKA Junior trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 24-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 78-80 at the end of the game. Strangely CSKA Junior outrebounded Zenit-2 44-31 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by CSKA Junior helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Konstantin Shevchuk (190-0, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) fired 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Mikhail Bokarev (193-2) chipped in 13 points. Forward Alexander Maltsev (200-2) produced 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Filipp Gafurov (207-1) added 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zenit-2 moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Avtodor-2 and N.Novgorod-2. CSKA Junior at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Zenit-2 is again looking forward to face CSKA Junior (#7) in Moscow in the next round. CSKA Junior will have a break next round.
