Regular Season Round 13: AEL - Apollon 74-82

OPAP Basket League top team - Apollon (10-2) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat ninth ranked AEL (0-10) in Limassol 82-74. AEL was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Apollon dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to AEL's 42. Americans were the main players on the court. Power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners and guard Derrick Gordon (190-91, college: Seton Hall, agency: Wasserman) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side power forward Damani Applewhite (203-97, college: SC State) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and Josh Ferguson (203-96, college: Winthrop) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Four AEL players scored in double figures. Apollon have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-2 record. AEL at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Apollon are looking forward to face E.N. Paralimni (#4) at home in the next round. AEL will play against AEK Larnaca (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
