Rather predictable result when third ranked Samara (11-3) smashed at home 7th ranked Chernye Medv. (6-7) 78-58 on Wednesday. Samara dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Chernye Medv.'s 24. Samara forced 23 Chernye Medv. turnovers and outrebounded them 44-26 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Forward Julia Poluyanova (187-92) fired 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Kseniya Kunakova (168-92) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Samara players scored in double figures. Samara's coach Alexander Garshin used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Power forward Viktoriya Shipovskaya (184-94) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Nina Ulchenkova (175-2) added 7 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Newly promoted Samara maintains third position with 11-3 record having just three points less than leader Rostov. Loser Chernye Medv. keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Samara will meet at home Spartak SP (#6) in the next round. Chernye Medv. will play against the league's second-placed Kazanochka and hope to secure a win.
