Regular Season Round 16: Irkut - TSU 74-96
Date: January 8, 2021
Bottom-ranked Irkut (0-13) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 13th consecutive match to fourth ranked TSU (9-4) 96-74. TSU shot 27 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Irkut only scored eleven points from the stripe. They also forced 24 Irkut turnovers. Strangely Irkut outrebounded TSU 36-20 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. 34 personal fouls committed by Irkut helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for the former international Aleksandr Zakharov (202-93) who helped to win the game recording 21 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Point guard Victor Zaryazhko (195-92) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four TSU players scored in double figures. Guard Alexander Martynov (197-95) replied with 20 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Alexander Anisimov (186-86, agency: Alti Sport) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Irkut. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. TSU maintains fourth position with 9-4 record. Newly promoted Irkut still closes the standings with 13 games lost. TSU's next round opponent will be Vostok-65 (#9) in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk where they are favorite. Irkut will play at home against the league's second-placed Uralmash (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
