Regular Season Round 17: Apollon - Keravnos 72-69

The biggest surprise took place in Limassol where host Apollon (11-4) edged league's leader Keravnos (12-3) 72-69 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Keravnos. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-16. But Keravnos won second period 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Apollon won last quarter 14-12. Apollon outrebounded Keravnos 43-25 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Power forward Joey Dorsey (206-83, college: Memphis) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Five Apollon players scored in double figures. Guard Brandon Rozzell (188-89, college: VCU) produced 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and power forward Andre Williamson (203-89, college: App State) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Apollon maintains third place with 11-4 record behind leader AEK Larnaca. Defending champion Keravnos still keeps top position with three games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by AEK Larnaca who have the same record. There is only one round left in the Regular Season. And it will be most important game for Keravnos this season. They will face league's leader AEK Larnaca trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Apollon will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Apoel in Nicosia.
